Taken To The Dryer

Our refrigerator broke in December and we replaced it last month. This morning, we awoke to learn that our clothes dryer has died, too. Doesn’t it always work that way?

The death of our second major appliance in less than two months forced us to make another unwanted and expensive trip to Sears — and another one with a costly tax bite.

The dryer, power kit (can you believe they charge separately for that?), and delivery and haul-away fees cost $611.93. The tax bill of 5 percent added $25.55 to the tab.

Thanks much, Aunt Virginia. You’d better fill a pothole or do something worthwhile with that windfall.
